It is always good to have extras on hand. We usually have a couple of pairs on the go so we can switch shoes for different rehearsals. Some classes or rehearsals require harder shoes than others, so we pick the shoes we wear depending on the choreography. Also, most of us go through shoes rather quickly, so we have a couple pairs on the go so that we don’t have to make trips to the shoe room once a week! :)
